I usually never write up reports because Dirchansky always does an amazing job of it for Love Love Hill, although this year due to my late arrival and Matsumoto Taiyou stanning I actually ended up in kind of a different schedule in the end, although I always went home to mai gorlsss.
Like Dirchansky said though, it was basically a year of feeling very happily overwhelmed and grateful and somewhat redeemed. We live in this weird Western/Eastern style void where we kind of half-fit at both anime and indie cons but TCAF is a wonderful place where we can find similarly inbetween-type work, enjoy both American indie/manga/BD, AND find a crowd that is open-minded to liking all comics equally!! This really sets me up for a molotov cocktail of feels — overstimulation by the massive amounts of awesome talent, beautiful products of tears and sweat, meeting our fans and new readers alike, people being amazingly generous and positive, being starstruck, general anxiety over all these things, and because everything is so great, a heavy dash of FOMO — but to be honest I think this year was probably the best year yet in many regards.
I still spent an inordinate amount of time in this pose though:

My report is even more long-winded and full of emotions than Dirchansky’s, CAN YOU DEAL? More about it after the cut….

Is that Figaro I see?
I finished the transparencies.
I forgot to close the cap of this bottle of ink once, so it thickened to a really nice consistency for drawing on acetate with a brush, but it really sucks for nib pens. It’s sort of like fresh india ink but darker, but definitely less viscous than india ink.I can actually talk about ink forever. The tissue paper underneath the acetate helps me see things.

This is part two of three, recapping the workshop with Eiji Otsuka, manga writer and Kobe Design University professor. Held at Otaku Lounge, Otsuka-sensei and his student Chiharu Nakashima (a professional mangaka in her own right) gave us a two-day crash course on manga storytelling.
Where we left off: Otsuka-sensei had gone through a super-condensed lesson about cinematography devices in manga-storytelling. He then assigned us some homework…
